SEATTLE (AP) -The Mariners’ designated left-hander Jake Woods for assignment after Sunday’s game against Detroit, meaning the team has 10 days to send Woods to the minors, trade him or release him.
Woods gave up one hit – a homer to Magglio Ordonez – in two innings Sunday against Detroit. For the season, Woods was 0-0 with a 5.91 ERA in four appearances.
Last year, Woods was a spot starter in the Mariners’ rotation, making eight starts. For the season, he was 7-4 with a 4.20 ERA and was thought to be in the competition for Seattle’s No. 5 spot in the rotation during spring training.
