KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -The Kansas City Royals claimed pitcher Robinson Tejeda off waivers from the Texas Rangers on Tuesday.
The team moved pitcher John Bale to the 60-day disabled list to clear room for Tejeda – a right-handed pitcher who started his major league career with Philadelphia – on its 40-man roster.
Tejeda, a 6-foot-3, 230-pound, right-hander, was not expected to join the Royals against the Colorado Rockies on Tuesday. But when he does, the team will have to make a move on its 25-man roster to clear space for him.
Texas designated Tejeda for assignment on June 14, after he allowed six runs and five hits and five walks in six innings this season. In the season’s first two months, Tejeda had a 2.18 ERA in 10 minor league appearances.
He is 14-17 with a 5.01 ERA in 63 career appearances, including 46 starts.
Bale, a left-handed pitcher, broke his throwing hand when he punched a hotel room door in Cleveland on May 2.
