DENVER (AP) -The Colorado Rockies on Wednesday agreed to terms with left-handed pitcher Christian Friedrich, the team’s first-round draft pick.
The deal is pending the completion of a physical.
The Rockies selected Friedrich out of Eastern Kentucky with the 25th overall pick earlier this month.
In 2008, he went 5-1 with a 1.43 ERA and was named the Ohio Valley Conference Pitcher of the Year. He ranked second in the nation in ERA, and he led the conference in ERA, strikeouts (108) and opponents’ batting average (.144).
Friedrich is the Colonels’ career leader in strikeouts with 327.
The Rockies have agreed to terms with six of their top 10 selections and 11 of their top 18 picks in this year’s draft.
