GOODYEAR, Ariz. (AP) – Joey Votto is eager to see how his left knee holds up during spring training. The Cincinnati Reds first baseman also is looking forward to his first home run.
Votto didn’t hit a homer after June 24 last season because of an injured left knee that required two operations and robbed him of his power. He was reduced to hitting mostly singles after he returned.
The NL’s 2010 MVP is proud of what he accomplished in spite of the injury, helping the Reds win the NL Central for the second time in three years. He passed his spring training physical on Friday, getting good results. He says the knee feels good, though not perfect. Now he wants to see how it reacts when he starts playing baseball again.
