NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -The Toronto Blue Jays acquired outfielder Buck Coats from the Cincinnati Reds on Wednesday for a player to be named or cash.
The Reds designated Coats for assignment on Nov. 28 when they signed free-agent closer Francisco Cordero.
The 25-year-old Coats played in 20 games for the Reds this season after they claimed him off waivers from the Chicago Cubs on Aug. 28. He batted .206 with two RBIs in 34 at-bats for Cincinnati.
In 127 games at Triple-A, Coats hit .308 with 11 home runs, 63 RBIs and 20 stolen bases.
