WASHINGTON (AP) -The Cincinnati Reds optioned right-hander Elizardo Ramirez to Triple-A Louisville after a 7-2 loss to the Washington Nationals on Wednesday night, so that left-hander Phil Dumatrait could be brought up to start Thursday.
Ramirez was called up Tuesday and his only appearance was a two-inning scoreless outing Wednesday.
Dumatrait is being recalled from Louisville and will be the seventh player to make his major league debut with the Reds in 2007. He went 10-5 with a 3.49 ERA at Louisville.
