ST. LOUIS (AP) – Brandon Phillips was moved to second in the batting order for the first time since opening day after tweeting, following approval by manager Dusty Baker, that it was time for a change.
Before Wednesday night’s game, Phillips yelled at a reporter for mentioning his .310 average with runners in scoring position over his 95 RBIs, which is among the National League leaders.
The Reds had lost four of five and were trying to avoid a three-game sweep against the NL Central-leading Cardinals. Cincinnati was in third place, 4 1/2 games back.
Phillips tweeted after a 6-1 loss Tuesday that “it was time to talk to POPS about changing my role! NEED NEW RESULTS ASAP! (hash)ALREADY.”
