BOSTON (AP) -The Boston Red Sox have activated shortstop Julio Lugo, who’s been sidelined since suffering a knee injury in spring training.
To make room for Lugo, the Red Sox announced Monday that right-hander Michael Bowden was being returned to Triple-A Pawtucket.
Lugo was injured in a March 13 exhibition game against the New York Yankees. He underwent arthroscopic surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee and was placed on the 15-day disabled list prior to the regular season.
Lugo was activated after a four-game rehab stint with Pawtucket. The team said he would be available for Monday’s game at Cleveland.
Bowden was called up before Sunday’s game against the Yankees and pitched two perfect innings in Boston’s 4-1 victory.
