ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) – The Texas Rangers have a winning record for the first time in nearly a full year after a magnificent May.
With Prince Fielder leading the American League with a .359 batting average and former AL MVP Josh Hamilton having an early impact, the Rangers are 26-25 to start June. They hadn’t been above .500 since last June 6.
The Rangers ended April hitting a majors-worst .210, and had an AL-worst 7-15 record after losing on the first day of May. They have won 19 of 29 games since, including four consecutive series.
For at least the next two weeks, they will be without Adrian Beltre. The third baseman sprained and cut his left thumb sliding into a base Sunday.
