ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) -Texas closer Frank Francisco is on the disabled list for the second time this season.
Francisco, who hasn’t pitched since June 3 because of shoulder stiffness, was placed on the 15-day disabled list Sunday after the right-hander threw 32 pitches in a bullpen session that both the pitcher and team said went well.
Assistant general manager Thad Levine says the Rangers want Francisco to throw long toss and another bullpen Tuesday, then go on a rehab assignment. With that, the Rangers figure it would be at least Friday before he could pitch for them anyway.
The move is retroactive to June 4, and he will be eligible to be activated Friday.
