HOUSTON (AP) -Catcher Humberto Quintero and the Houston Astros agreed Monday to a $610,000, one-year contract that avoided salary arbitration.
The 29-year-old hit .226 with two home runs and 12 RBIs for the Astros last tear, when he set career highs foir games, at-bats, runs, hits, doubles and RBIs.
Quintero, who started his career in 2003 with San Diego before joining the Astros two years later, has played in 152 games, batting .230 with five home runs and 35 RBIs.
Four Astros remain in arbitration: right-handers Brandon Backe and Geoff Geary, left-hander Tim Byrdak and catcher Wandy Rodriguez. They were set to swap proposed arbitration figures with the Astros on Tuesday.
