DUNEDIN, Fla. (AP) -New York Yankees catcher Jorge Posada will come off the disabled list before Friday night’s game at Cleveland.
The All-Star played six innings Thursday in an extended spring training game, then said he was scheduled to fly to Cleveland to meet up with his team.
Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said Posada will be activated but he did not yet have a corresponding roster move.
Posada has been sidelined since straining his right hamstring May 4. The Yankees open a four-game series with the Indians on Friday night.
“The hamstring is feeling good,” Posada said. “I’m happy with everything. The most important thing was just running, seeing some pitches and getting the timing down.”

Xavier Nady, out with a right elbow injury, was the designated hitter and had two hits in five at-bats. He hit an opposite-field homer to right, singled and also walked.
Nady is scheduled to resume throwing Monday. The right fielder felt a sharp pain in the elbow while making a throw April 14 at Tampa Bay. He had right elbow ligament replacement surgery on Sept, 29, 2001.
Backup catcher Jose Molina (strained left quadriceps) worked out at the Yankees’ minor league complex in Tampa, but hasn’t started playing in extended spring training games.
Center fielder Melky Cabrera, injured during Tuesday’s game at Texas, was diagnosed with a bruised right shoulder when he was examined Thursday by Yankees physician Dr. Christopher Ahmad. Cabrera is day to day and planned to rejoin the team in Cleveland on Friday. New York had said previously Cabrera could be sidelined through the weekend.
