SAN DIEGO (AP) -Padres catcher Michael Barrett, who missed 115 games because of injuries, has elected free agency after clearing outright waivers.
Also Friday, the Padres claimed second baseman Travis Denker off waivers from the San Francisco Giants.
Barrett missed the last three months of the season after fouling a ball off his face at Colorado on July 2. He also was on the DL from April 8-May 24 with a sprained right elbow. He batted .202 with two home runs and nine RBIs in 30 games.
Denker made his big league debut with the Giants on May 21 and played 24 games with San Francisco, hitting .243 with one home run and three RBIs.
