PEORIA, Ariz. (AP) -Relief pitcher Duaner Sanchez agreed to a minor league contract with the San Diego Padres on Sunday, five days after he was released by the New York Mets.
Sanchez was cut by the Mets after failing to regain form following two shoulder operations.
The Padres, coming off a 99-loss season, have spots open in their bullpen.
Sanchez was 5-1 with a 4.32 ERA in 66 relief appearances for the Mets last year.
The right-hander separated his pitching shoulder in a taxi accident on July 30, 2006, and had season-ending surgery. He missed the 2007 season following a hairline fracture in the front of his shoulder during spring training and returned to the majors last April 15.
