BALTIMORE (AP) -Baltimore Orioles right-hander Scott Williamson was placed on the 15-day disabled list on Tuesday because of tightness in his right triceps tendon.
He left Monday night’s game against Oakland with tightness in his right arm. Williamson said he felt better on Tuesday, but the Orioles decided he needed the rest.
“It’s not really an injury in my mind. It’s totally in the muscle,” Williamson said. “In my mind, I could probably go out there and pitch. But, obviously if you come out of a game, they look at a guy a little bit different.”
Williamson appeared in only six games this season, allowing one earned in five innings of work. He underwent offseason elbow surgery and acknowledged earlier this month that his arm was not yet in midseason form.
“We need to get Scott good enough so he can go out there and pitch a little more often than he has,” manager Sam Perlozzo said.
