WASHINGTON (AP) -Washington Nationals starting pitcher Odalis Perez was ejected in the third inning of Tuesday’s game with Arizona for arguing a balk call.
The balk – called by home plate umpire Angel Hernandez was the second of the inning. The first enabled Arizona’s Chris Burke to advance to second. Burke scored on Chris Young’s single and a moment later, Hernandez called a second balk.
Perez charged toward Hernandez, who quickly ejected him. The left-hander had to be restrained by manager Manny Acta, pitching coach Randy St. Claire and second base umpire Eric Cooper.
Steven Shell replaced Perez.
