LOS ANGELES (AP) -New York Mets shortstop Jose Reyes left Wednesday night’s game against the Los Angeles Dodgers in the bottom of the third inning after aggravating a troublesome right calf that forced him to miss five games.
Reyes returned to the lineup on Tuesday night, but in his second at-bat of the series finale, he had to run hard on a grounder in the hole that Dodgers second baseman Orlando Hudson played on the outfield grass before throwing him out.
The switch-hitting Reyes, who was diagnosed with tendinitis in his calf earlier this week, averaged 61 1/2 extra-base hits over the previous four seasons, including 65 triples, and has 11 extra-base hits through his first 36 games this year. The Mets’ all-time stolen base leader is 11 for 13 this season.
