ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) -Barack Obama and John McCain agree on at least one thing – the importance of the World Series.
The presidential candidates recorded inspirational quotes about baseball from historical figures, including Martin Luther King Jr. and former presidents Franklin D. Roosevelt and John F. Kennedy, to be aired on the television broadcast before Wednesday night’s World Series opener between Tampa Bay and Philadelphia.
Rays players Cliff Floyd, Carl Crawford, Jonny Gomes, David Price, Edwin Jackson and Fernando Perez appeared at an Obama rally Monday at the New York Yankees’ spring training ballpark in Tampa.
“When you see a White Sox fan showing some love to the Rays, and the Rays showing some love back, you know we’re on to something right here,” Obama said.
McCain’s wife, Cindy, and her children own a minority stake in the Arizona Diamondbacks, and Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling has appeared in McCain campaign advertising.
