PEORIA, Ariz. (AP) -Ichiro Suzuki has singled to right field in his first at-bat since a bleeding ulcer put the Seattle Mariners star on the disabled list for the first time in his career.
The perennial All-Star and Gold Glove outfielder got the hit on the second pitch he saw as the designated hitter in an extended spring training game on Thursday at the Mariners’ spring-training facility.
Seattle manager Don Wakamatsu has said his leadoff hitter will play three games before being re-evaluated.
Suzuki is on track to be activated from the DL on Wednesday, before the Mariners’ second home game of the season.
Seattle is finishing a season-opening series at Minnesota.
