ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) -Yankees right-hander Ian Kennedy remains scheduled to make his next start Saturday, despite being hit by a liner on the right hip Monday night.
Kennedy left Monday’s game against Tampa Bay after being struck by Jason Bartlett’s line drive in the seventh.
“It feels really good today,” Kennedy said Tuesday. “I expected to be a lot more stiff. It’s just a little seam mark where it hit. No bruising.”
Kennedy is slated to throw his normal between-starts bullpen session Wednesday.
“He’s feeling pretty good,” Yankees manager Joe Girardi said.
Regular catcher Jorge Posada, slowed by a right shoulder injury, made 53 throws in the outfield – including 13 hard throws from the distance from the plate to second base (about 120 feet). Posada said he felt good after the session.
Posada is able to DH, but hasn’t been in the lineup for three straight games.
“There’s just not enough spots,” Girardi said.
Hideki Matsui was the DH Tuesday.
Backup catcher Jose Molina, who hurt his left hamstring Sunday, is taking batting practice, but hasn’t resumed running.
“Better than yesterday, that’s for sure,” Molina said. “Going day by day. If it’s an emergency, I would be ready.”
Notes: RHP Jeff Karstens (groin) is set to begin throwing off a mound at the Yankees’ minor league complex in Tampa, Fla. … RHP Humberto Sanchez (elbow surgery) has started working off a bullpen mound.
