ATLANTA (AP) -Braves right fielder Jeff Francoeur was not in the lineup for the second game of a doubleheader against the New York Mets on Tuesday night, ending a streak of 370 consecutive starts.
Francoeur’s streak also gave him the majors’ longest run of consecutive games played. He still could extend that to 371 by entering the game later, perhaps as a pinch-hitter or defensive replacement.
Manager Bobby Cox probably hoped the time off would help Francoeur snap out of a slump. He was only 1-for-14 on the current homestand, dropping his average to .258.
Francoeur began his streak on Oct. 1, 2005.
