KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) – The Kansas City Royals’ game against the Cleveland Indians was delayed in the top of the seventh inning when roughly half the lights at Kauffman Stadium went out shortly after midnight.
The start of Wednesday night’s game was already delayed by 2 hours, 37 minutes by a stubborn rain cloud that refused to budge from over top of the stadium, even though there were blue skies not more than a mile away from the ballpark.
The Royals had just rallied to take a 5-3 lead in the bottom of the sixth when the Indians came to bat. Mark Reynolds struck out to start the seventh and Ryan Raburn was at the plate when about half of the lights around the ballpark suddenly went dark.
Plate umpire Kerwin Danley halted the game. It wasn’t immediately clear what caused the outage or how long it would take for lights to be restored.
