CLEVELAND (AP) -Kelly Shoppach, one of the bright spots in a disappointing season for the Cleveland Indians, had surgery on his right knee Monday.
The arthroscopic procedure by Dr. Mark Schickendantz was termed minor by the club, which expects Shoppach to be fully recovered well before the team opens spring training in February.
Thrust into the starting spot at catcher when two-time All-Star Victor Martinez was sidelined for two months after elbow surgery in June, Shoppach batted .261 with career highs of 21 homers and 55 RBIs.
