HOUSTON (AP) -The Houston Astros offered arbitration to free agents Trever Miller and Mark Loretta, but not to pitcher Jason Jennings and infielder Mike Lamb.
The Astros also declined to offer arbitration to right-handed reliever Brian Moehler, pinch-hitter Orlando Palmeiro and Craig Biggio, who retired after 20 seasons.
Miller and Loretta have until Friday to accept the offer. If they decline and sign with another club, the Astros would receive a compensatory draft selection between the first and second rounds of the June 2008 draft for each player.
The 34-year-old Miller posted a 4.86 ERA with one save and no decisions in 76 appearances for the Astros this season. The left-hander is 2-3 with two saves and a 3.90 ERA in two seasons with Houston (2006-07).
The 36-year-old hit .287 with four home runs and 41 RBIs in 133 games. The two-time All-Star appeared at all four infield positions, playing mostly at shortstop (72 games) after Adam Everett broke his right leg on June 14. In two seasons with the Astros (2002, 2007), Loretta has hit .304 with six home runs and 49 RBIs.
Jennings finished 2-9 with a 6.45 ERA in 18 starts during his first year with Houston in 2007. The right-hander missed the final month of the season after season-ending surgery on his right elbow on Aug. 30.
Lamb hit .289 with 11 home runs and 40 RBIs in 124 games for the Astros. Last season, he became the only left-handed hitter in franchise history to record double-digit home runs in four consecutive seasons.
