CINCINNATI (AP) -Ken Griffey Jr. hit his 569th career homer Thursday, moving into a tie for ninth place with Rafael Palmeiro.
Griffey has been on a tear since the Cincinnati Reds moved him back into his accustomed third spot in the order. The 37-year-old outfielder has hit safely in seven of those eight games, getting four of his six homers.
He worked Houston’s Matt Albers to a full count, then pulled the next pitch deep into the seats in right field. The two-run shot in the second inning put the Reds up 6-0.
Albers is the 362nd pitcher to give up a homer to Griffey.
