DETROIT (AP) -Former Detroit Tigers outfielder Ron LeFlore was arrested while signing autographs for failure to pay at least $48,000 in child support.
LeFlore, 58, of Clearwater, Fla., was arrested Saturday at Gibraltar Trade Center in Mount Clemens, authorities said. He was arraigned Monday in Wayne County Circuit Court in Detroit on the felony count.
Judge Meghan Brennan ordered LeFlore to pay $12,000 to the mother of his daughter or spend 45 days in jail, and he was held following the hearing. The court didn’t know whether LeFlore had a lawyer.
LeFlore told Brennan that he was in the process of filing for disability with a job with the city of Clearwater.
The arrest was reported Monday by The Macomb Daily of Mount Clemens. At the time of his arrest, the newspaper said LeFlore was signing $4 autographs with former Tigers pitcher Mickey Lolich.
LeFlore, who played six seasons with the Tigers, was the subject of a 1978 movie, “One in a Million: The Ron LeFlore Story.” The movie depicted his rise as a baseball player after being a prison inmate.
LeFlore also spent one year with Montreal and two with the Chicago White Sox.
