ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) – Adrian Beltre believes the new-look Texas Rangers are still going to be competitive in the AL West.
Beltre, a Gold Glove-winning third baseman who hit .321 with 36 homers last season, said Friday that the Rangers still “have some good pieces” in the lineup that can get the job done.
They also have a solid pitching staff led by Yu Darvish, who won 16 games as a major league rookie last season. The Japanese ace says he’s more at ease this year and is able to prepare at a less-rushed pace.
There will be significant changes after the Rangers lost Josh Hamilton in free agency to the division-rival Los Angeles Angels, traded Michael Young and watched Mike Napoli agree to a deal with Boston that’s still not finalized.
