MIAMI (AP) – Chicago Cubs right fielder Jorge Soler is out of the starting lineup because of an ankle injury, and manager Joe Maddon isn’t ruling out a stint on the disabled list.
Soler was hurt trying to beat out a grounder Monday. He stayed in the game but the injury worsened overnight, and Maddon says the severity was uncertain pending further examination by a doctor.
With Soler out for Tuesday night’s game at Miami, Maddon juggled his lineup and had rookie Kris Bryant starting in left field for the first time.
Through Monday, Soler hadn’t missed a game this season and led all NL rookies with 50 hits. He was batting .265.
