CHICAGO (AP) -Gov. Rod Blagojevich heard boos Friday night when the Chicago White Sox unveiled a championship monument commemorating their 2005 World Series title, and it figured – he’s a big Cubs fan.
Blagojevich was booed loudly when he first entered the plaza where the ceremony took place before the game against Detroit, heard the boos again during his introduction and again when he spoke and made a reference to the Cubs.
“My side of town would like to replicate what you did in 2005,” Blagojevich said.
The Cubs haven’t won a World Series title since 1908. When the White Sox won three years ago, it snapped an 88-year drought dating to 1917.
White Sox chairman Jerry Reinsdorf called Blagojevich “a misguided Cubs fan” whom he said was almost as happy as White Sox fans when they won the World Series.
