PEORIA, Ariz. (AP) -Kevin Correia is doing his best to land a job in the San Diego Padres’ starting rotation.
Correia struck out five in four scoreless innings on Wednesday night as the Padres beat South Korea’s World Baseball Classic squad.
Correia, a non-roster invitee who was 3-8 with a 6.05 ERA for the San Francisco Giants in 2008, allowed one hit and walked one against Korea, which won Group A in the WBC to advance to the second round in San Diego.
The Padres scored three runs off starter Kwang Hyun Kim, who was the Korea Baseball Organizations most valuable player in 2008.
Brian Giles drove in one of those runs and finished 3-for-3 with two RBIs. Chase Headley was 2-for-4 with four RBIs for San Diego.
