Cold prompts Reds to change game time

 

CINCINNATI (AP) -Cold weather prompted the Cincinnati Reds to change their game against the Pittsburgh Pirates to an afternoon start on Saturday.
The game was originally scheduled for 7:10 p.m., but the first pitch was moved to 1:05 p.m. instead. It was 36 degrees at the first pitch on Friday, with snow flurries forecast for overnight and more cold to follow.
The announcement was made during the fourth inning of the opening game of their series on Friday night, when the temperature had dipped to 32 degrees. The Reds consulted the Pirates, the umpires and Major League Baseball about the time switch.
Reds chief operating officer John Allen said the advance ticket sale for the game was small. The Reds will be “very liberal” in working with any fans who don’t get notified of the late time change, offering tickets to another game.
“Hopefully most people will understand,” Allen said. “It’s too brutally cold.”
