CLEVELAND (AP) -The St. Louis Cardinals recalled right-hander P.J. Walters from Triple-A Memphis before Friday night’s game against the Cleveland Indians.
Infielder Brian Barden was optioned to Memphis.
Walters, a rookie, had no record and a 9.58 earned run average in five appearances with the Cardinals earlier this season. He was 2-5 with a 4.14 ERA in eight starts at Memphis. Walters will give the Cardinals additional bullpen depth for this weekend’s interleague series in Cleveland, where the designated hitter will be used.
Barden hit .238 with four homers and 10 RBIs in 51 games.
