ST. LOUIS (AP) -Rick Ankiel has gone on the 15-day disabled list three days after the St. Louis Cardinals center fielder crashed headfirst into the wall making a running catch.
Thursday’s move was made retroactive to Tuesday.
Ankiel is batting .247 with two home runs and 11 RBIs. He has a bruised right shoulder and overall soreness related to the collision but manager Tony La Russa expects him to be ready to return when he comes off the DL.
Outfielder Shane Robinson was recalled from Triple-A Memphis. Robinson was batting .345 with two RBIs and 13 runs in 15 games in the minors.
Rookie Colby Rasmus got his third straight start in center field Thursday in place of Ankiel.
