OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) -Oakland Athletics right-hander Kiko Calero, who hasn’t pitched since June 16 because of inflammation in his right shoulder, could be activated as early as Friday.
Calero threw a simulated game before the Athletics’ game against the Seattle Mariners on Thursday and pronounced himself fit.
“I’d like to pitch tonight,” he said. “Right now I’m feeling loose.”
Calero, who threw a bullpen session on Tuesday, would give the A’s bullpen some much needed depth. Closer Huston Street and right-hander Justin Duchscherer have both been on the shelf since the middle of May. Duchscherer is out for the season.
A’s manager Bob Geren said he would activate Calero on Friday depending on how he felt, but no later than Saturday.
