MIAMI (AP) – Milwaukee Brewers manager Ron Roenicke is coming to Ryan Braun’s defense over the baserunning blunder that cost their team a run in Saturday’s 2-1 loss at Miami.
Gomez was thrown out at third base trying to advance from first on a single for the final out of the sixth inning, which prevented Braun from scoring from second on the play. Braun was several feet from crossing the plate when Gomez was tagged out. After the game, Gomez said Braun should have run harder and scored.
Roenicke disagreed Sunday, saying if Braun had run 100 percent, he still wouldn’t have scored.
Gomez says he has no regrets about his aggressive play. But Roenicke says Gomez realized he made a mistake.
