PHILADELPHIA (AP) -Atlanta Braves All-Star catcher Brian McCann left the game Sunday against the Phillies after Shane Victorino ran him over in the sixth inning.
It appeared Victorino collided into McCann helmet to mask. McCann stayed down for a couple minutes, before walking off the field on his own. There was no immediate word on McCann’s injury.
Victorino scored on Ryan Howard’s single to right field, jarring the ball loose upon making impact.
It’s the second time this season a Phillies player injured a catcher with a collision at the plate. Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina sustained a mild concussion after getting knocked over by Eric Bruntlett on June 15.
