BOSTON (AP) -The Boston Red Sox optioned Michael Bowden to Triple-A Pawtucket one day after he won his major league debut and recalled outfielder Jonathan Van Every from their top farm club Sunday.
Bowden gave up two runs and seven hits over five innings in Boston’s 8-2 win over the Chicago White Sox on Saturday night. The right-hander was the third pitcher to make his major league debut in a starting role for the Red Sox this season, following Justin Masterson and Charlie Zink.
With first baseman Kevin Youkilis and center fielder Coco Crisp out sick Sunday, the Red Sox recalled Van Every to add some depth for their game against the White Sox.
Van Every has 26 homers, 70 RBIs and a .263 batting average in 119 games with Pawtucket. He was 1-for-3 in his only game this season with Boston at Baltimore on May 14.
