NEW YORK (AP) A person familiar with the deal says the New York Mets and Arizona Diamondbacks have agreed to a trade that would send reliever Addison Reed to the NL East leaders.
The person spoke on condition of anonymity Saturday night because no announcement had been made. The deal is likely subject to a review of medical records.
ESPN.com first reported the agreement. Multiple reports indicated the Diamondbacks will receive a pair of minor leaguers.
Hoping to hold off second-place Washington and reach the playoffs for the first time since 2006, the Mets have been looking for late-inning help in the bullpen.
Reed lost his job as Arizona’s closer this season and was demoted to the minors for three weeks to work on mechanical problems. The right-hander has a 1.65 ERA with 14 strikeouts in 16 1-3 innings since he was recalled from Triple-A Reno on July 29.
