DURHAM, N.C. (AP) -Three repeat selections were among nine players chosen to fill out USA Baseball’s national team on Wednesday.
Long Beach State infielder Danny Espinosa, Texas Tech outfielder Roger Kieschnick and Santa Clara catcher Tommy Medica were on the U.S. team that won the gold medal at last year’s FISU World Championships in Havana, Cuba.
The other six players picked to fill out the 20-man roster were RHP Ryan Berry (Rice), OF Jordan Danks (Texas), IF-OF Ryan Flaherty (Vanderbilt), IF-OF Logan Forsythe (Arkansas), RHP-IF Jordy Mercer (Oklahoma State) and C Preston Paramore (Arizona State).
“We are very pleased with how the final roster has come together over the past couple of weeks, and it is always rewarding for our staff to see the strong mix of USA Baseball alumni who were selected,” said Eric Campbell, the organization’s general manager of national teams.
Berry and Medica were the only two players who were freshmen this season. The other 18 players were sophomores.
