Giants vs. Rockies Pick
Are the San Francisco Giants and host Colorado Rockies going to have an offensive explosion Tuesday night at Coors Field? First pitch is at 8:40PM EST.
According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, the Rockies are set as a -175 favorite to win on the moneyline. The Giants are a +150 underdog and the over-under is set at 12.5.
The start for San Francisco will go to Ty Blach (8-11, 4.68 ERA), while Colorado counters with Tyler Chatwood (6-12, 5.00). Blach has a 1.35 WHIP with 70 strikeouts in 150 innings. He allowed three earned runs on five hits with one strikeout and two walks over 5 2/3 innings in his last start, a 5-0 loss at the Giants. He has a 5.57 ERA in 14 appearances (10 starts) on the road this season. He has a 3.52 ERA in 7 2/3 innings pitched at Coors Field in 2017. Chatwood has a 1.46 WHIP with 100 strikeouts over 122 1/3 innings. He carries a 6.91 ERA in 14 1/3 innings during August. He has made 20 starts this year, but has recently been in the bullpen where he’s made an additional seven appearances.
San Francisco is 54-86 and 22-48 on the road, while Colorado is 73-64 and 40-30 at home. The Rockies have won seven of the last 10 meetings and the over-under is 4-5-1.
In the series opener Monday, Colorado won 4-3 as Carlos Gonzalez drew a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the ninth inning. Charlie Blackmon was 3-for-5 with a home run, a double and two runs to key the offense. D.J. LeMahieu went 2-for-5 with an RBI. Gonzalez finished 1-for-3 with a double, a walk and two RBIs. Greg Holland earned the win in relief. Denard Span went 3-for-4 with a home run and two runs for the Giants. Joe Panik was 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs. Steven Okert took the loss in relief.
Blach is one of the most hittable starting pitchers in baseball and is lucky he pitches his home games in a park heavily tilted toward keeping runs at a minimum. Coors Field is the exact opposite. Chatwood hasn’t been good this season either, although it can be more excused due to home park factors. Although the Giants offense has struggled all season, this is a matchup that will allow them to barrel some balls. Expect a high-scoring game tonight.
