The start for Philadelphia will go to Nick Pivetta (5-9, 6.57 ERA), while Miami goes with Dillon Peters in his MLB debut. Pivetta has a 1.56 WHIP with 106 strikeouts over 100 innings. He allowed three runs (two earned) on six hits with five strikeouts and four walks over five innings in his last start, a 6-3 home win over the Cubs. Pivetta has a 7.62 ERA in 11 road starts. The left-handed Peters was 6-2 with a 1.97 ERA in nine starts for Double A Jacksonville. He struck out 40 in 45 2/3 innings and had a WHIP of O.96.
The Phillies are 50-83 overall and 22-46 on the road, while the Marlins enter with a 66-67 record and are 35-30 at home. Miami has won six of the last 10 meetings, while the total has gone over seven times.
Thursday’s series opener was won 3-2 by Philadelphia as Ben Lively threw six innings of two-run ball to record the win. He also added a single and drove in two runs to help his own cause. Cesar Hernandez and Freddy Galvis both had a single and a double. Pedro Florimon added a hit, a run and an RBI. Hector Neris earned his 17th save. Odrisamer Despaigne allowed three earned runs over four innings to take the loss. Dee Gordon was 3-for-4 with a walk, a run and a stolen base to pace Miami. Christian Yelich was 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI.
The two offenses might have struggled Thursday, but now we get a rookie pitcher who has been abysmal on the road coupled with another rookie making his MLB debut. Miami has a strong one through five in its batting order, while the Phillies offense has been better since the addition of rookie slugger Rhys Hoskins. Go with the over here.
