Thornton hit hard in loss
Toronto could not rally all the way back Monday night as it lost 10-8 at Boston to drop to 35-60 overall and 17-30 on the road. Trent Thornton took the loss as he gave up five earned runs on five hits with no strikeouts and three walks over 1 1/3 innings. Billy McKinney helped lead the Blue Jays offense as he finished 2-for-4 with a home run, two runs scored and two RBIs. Eric Sogard went 3-for-5 with a double and a run scored. Freddy Galvis was 2-for-5 with two runs and two RBIs. Jacob Waguespack will start tonight for Toronto as he comes in with a 1-0 record, 5.00 ERA and 1.11 WHIP with 11 strikeouts over nine innings pitched.
Red Sox explode in first, third innings
Boston scored five runs in the first inning and another five in the third Monday night at home in a 10-8 victory over Toronto. Michael Chavis helped pace the offense as he was 1-for-3 with a first-inning grand slam plus two walks. Xander Bogaerts was 3-for-4 with a walk, two runs scored and an RBI. Andrew Benintendi finished 2-for-5 with a double, a run and three RBIs. Rick Porcello picked up the win as he gave up four earned runs on eight hits with two strikeouts and no walks over six innings of work. Andrew Cashner makes his first start tonight asfter being traded to the Red Sox as he comes in with a 9-3 record, 3.83 ERA and 1.19 WHIP with 66 strikeouts over 96 1/3 innings.
MLB Betting Trends
Toronto
The Blue Jays are 21-46 in their last 67 games. Toronto is 0-4 in its last four Tuesday games.
Boston
The Red Sox are 6-2 in their last eight games overall. Boston is 2-5 in its last seven home games.
Prediction:
All eyes will be on Cashner tonight as he looks to help Boston with a playoff push over the next two-plus months. While Toronto is familiar with his offerings, Cashner does a good job of inducing weak contact as he has gotten it done this season for the most part despite a miniscule strikeout rate. I’m not ready to lay money on Waguespack and the Jays on the road here, so I’m definitely heavy leaning toward the host Red Sox.
