Rays Season Odds
The American League defending champion Tampa Bay Rays don’t want 2008 to be remembered as a fluke season.
Oddsmakers from online sports book SBG Global have made the Rays’ odds to win the 2009 World Series 15/1 and their odds to win the American League Pennant at 8/1.
The young Rays took the baseball world by storm last year in not only finishing with their first-ever winning season, but also appearing in their first-ever World Series. Granted they eventually lost to the Philadelphia Phillies, but Tampa made people take notice of its talent and now they’re set to make another deep run.
The Rays have some of the best young talent in baseball, including third baseman Evan Longoria and outfielders B.J. Upton and Carl Crawford. The starting rotation is solid as well, with ace Scott Kazmir leading the way and veteran Jamie Shields and youngster Matt Garza filling out the top three.
Even though they won the American League Pennant last year, things won’t be handed to the Rays this year. The Yankees and Red Sox are still incredibly tough in their division, while other clubs like the Angels, Twins and White Sox are expected to be good again. But Tampa proved last year that its no joke and it’ll be hell bent on proving ’08 wasn’t a fluke. At 15/1 odds to win the 2009 World Series, the Rays are quite the value bet.
