Mariners fall again
Seattle suffered another 1-run loss on Saturday, 5-4 to lose the first two games of the series and its sixth straight overall. The Mariners are now 18-17 on the season, 11-6 on the road and 22-11 with the over. Seattle sends Erik Swanson to the mound today. He is 0-3 with a 6.62 ERA.
The Mariners couldn’t hold on to a late lead in Saturday’s loss as Connor Sadzeck blew his first save of the year, allowing a run in 0.1 innings of work in the eighth. Mike Leake pitched 6.0 innings in his start, allowing three earned runs and seven hits with four strikeouts. Seattle actually had three home runs in the loss. Both Edwin Encarnacion and Daniel Vogelbach got their ninth long ball of the season.
Indians edge Seattle again
Cleveland managed a second straight 1-run win over the Mariners on Saturday afternoon with the 5-4 victory. The Indians are now 18-13 on the season, 9-4 at home and 18-12 with the under. Cleveland has Cody Anderson on the mound today. He is 0-0 with a 5.40 ERA this year.
Cleveland put up two runs in the bottom of the eighth of Saturday’s game to help it grab the win. Carlos Santana blasted a two-run home run, his fifth of the season. Francisco Lindor also homered in the win, which was his fourth of the year. He finished with two hits, two runs and a RBI. Carlos Carrasco pitched 7.2 innings in his start, allowing four earned runs on seven hits with nine strikeouts. Tyler Olson got the win in relief while Brad Hand earned his 10th save of the season by striking out the side in the top of the ninth.

Prediction:
Seattle just hasn’t been able to find the right mix of hitting and pitching in this weekend series. I don’t know that it’s going to change today with Swanson on the mound. He has allowed 14 runs over his last two outings. While Cody Anderson is not impressive either, Cleveland has been solid with its bullpen this weekend and is at home. I think the Indians will continue get the timely hitting and pitching at home.
