Boston’s Porcello prepared to silence Seattle
Seattle’s bats are doing everything possible to help the team climb the American League West standings. The sketchy health of the rotation, though, consistently keeps Scott Servais’ group from realizing its full potential.
Wade Miley is the latest hurler to fall, meaning Adrian Sampson gets the call in today’s battle vs. the Red Sox (37-29). Oddsmakers at online sports book BetDSI list Boston as a 1.5-run favorite. The M’s, on the other hand, enter Fenway Park as +152 underdogs.
Ace Felix Hernandez’s strained right calf apparently wasn’t enough of an inconvenience for the Mariners. When Miley encountered a shoulder impingement following last weekend’s assignment against the Rangers, that necessitated Sampson’s arrival from Tacoma. The 24-year-old went 7-4 with a 3.25 ERA in 13 starts at the Class AAA level.
On the opposing side, Rick Porcello (7-2, 3.81 ERA) aims to continue his mastery of Yawkey Way. The veteran righty holds a 5-0 record in five home outings this season. He’s also on pace to register 17 victories altogether, which would shatter his previous career high of 15 in 2014.

The M’s (36-31) claimed the series opener, 8-4, thanks largely to another boffo offensive performance from Robinson Cano. With a virtual unknown set to take the hill in several hours, they’ll need a repeat showing. Just don’t expect the East Coast-loving Porcello to accommodate the visitors.
