Rodriguez impresses in second start
San Francisco rookie starting pitcher Dereck Rodriguez, the son of Hall of Famer Ivan Rodriguez, did not fare particularly well in his first MLB start at Colorado. But that could be chalked up to not only first-start nerves, but also the hitter’s haven that is Coors Field. In his second start, Rodriguez pitched much better as he surrendered one earned run on five hits with six strikeouts and two walks over six innings in a 6-1 home win over the Phillies. With only one of the four runs he gave up in 3 1/3 innings being earned in the start at the Rockies, his ERA now stands at 1.93 through 9 1/3 innings. Although a fairly big underdog today on the road, the Giants could opt to keep Rodriguez in the rotation going forward if he tosses another strong start.
Gonzalez continues strong season
Nationals left-hander Gio Gonzalez tossed another strong start his last time out against the Braves and will get his turn in the rotation again today. In a 5-3 victory at Atlanta, he gave up three earned runs on five hits with nine strikeouts and no walks over seven innings. He received a no-decision, but Washington eventually won in the 14th inning. Gonzalez has not allowed more than three runs in a start this season and carries a 6-2 record plus a 2.27 ERA into today’s outing.
MLB Betting Trends
San Francisco
The Giants are 5-1 in their last six Saturday games. San Francisco is 9-3 in its last 12 games versus a left-handed starter.
Washington
The Nationals are 4-1 in their last five in game two of a series. Washington is 22-7 in its last 29 games against a right-handed starter.
Prediction:
Even though Gonzalez has been stellar, so have the Giants against lefties lately. Same goes for the Nats versus righties. I think some runs get put on the board and this finds its way to the over.
