Lyles struggling on road
San Diego will turn to Jordan Lyles for the start today and he comes in with a 4.46 ERA and 1.28 WHIP, posting a 2-4 record with 56 strikeouts in 66 2/3 innings. In nine road appearances (four starts), he has allowed 18 earned runs in 31 innings for an ERA of 5.23. He has allowed opponents to bat .279 against him on the road compared to .243 at home. Lyles could benefit more than normal on the road today from being in another pitcher’s park.
Suarez comfortable at AT&T Park
San Francisco left-handed starter Andrew Suarez has a 4.70 ERA and 1.23 WHIP over 11 starts and 59 1/3 innings this season, but in 31 2/3 home innings his ERA is at 3.41 with a WHIP of 0.85. In a home start against San Diego back on May 1, he gave up two earned runs on four hits with five strikeouts and a walk over seven innings as he received a no-decision in a 3-2 loss. Suarez was strong in his last start as well as he allowed two earned runs on five hits with seven strikeouts and one walk in 6 1/3 innings as he got a no-decision in a 5-4 defeat at home versus the Marlins.
MLB Betting Trends
San Diego
The Padres are 7-1 in their last eight Saturday games. San Diego is 0-4 in its last five games versus a left-handed starter.
San Francisco
The Giants are 6-1 in their last seven during game three of a series. San Francisco is 2-6 in Suarez’s last eight starts.
Prediction:
Suarez has already had home success against San Diego and he has a strong start to build off. I simply don’t trust Lyles if he is away from home, even in a pitcher-friendly stadium like AT&T Park. Go with San Francisco in this spot.
