Padres hit the road
San Diego is coming off a week-long homestand where it dropped three of its last four games to the likes of the Rays and Rockies. The Padres are 56-64 on the season, 27-31 on the road and 58-54 with the over. Chris Paddack takes the mound for the Padres today. He is 7-5 on the season with a 3.26 ERA.
The Padres are averaging 4.54 runs per game this season while batting .246 as a team. On the mound, San Diego has a 4.59 team ERA this season with a 1.30 team WHIP. The Padres took a blow this week as star rookie Fernando Tatis Jr. suffered a back injury that has him out indefinitely. He has 22 home runs and 53 RBI on the year. Eric Hosmer is leading the team with 22 doubles, 18 home runs and 81 RBI while Manny Machado has 16 doubles, 26 home runs and 70 RBI.
Phillies sweep Cubs
Philadelphia is riding a three-game win streak after finishing a sweep of the Cubs last night in a 7-5 victory. Philly is now 63-58 on the season, 37-26 at home and 61-57 with the under. Vince Velasquez is on the mound today for Philly. He is 4-7 on the season with a 4.30 ERA.
The Phillies are averaging 4.79 runs per game on offense while batting .247 as a team. On the mound, Philadelphia has a 4.60 team ERA with a 1.38 team WHIP. Bryce Harper is leading the team with 30 doubles, 25 home runs and 87 RBI while Rhys Hoskins has 24 doubles, 24 home runs and 70 RBI. Hoskins is questionable to play today due to a hand injury.
MLB Betting Trends
San Diego
The Padres are 9-4 in their last 13 road games against a right-handed starter, but just 2-5 in their last seven road games.
Philadelphia
The Phillies are 4-1 in their last five home games, but just 1-5 in their last six games against NL West opponents.
Prediction:
Paddack has been pretty good on the mound this season, but he is trending down over the last few weeks, allowing 13 earned runs over his last 20.1 innings. His ERA on the road is near 4.00 and he allowed six runs over 4.1 innings against the Phillies earlier in the year. Velasquez hasn’t been great, but he’s been slowly dropping his ERA over the last month. I like the momentum that Philly gained by sweeping the Cubs and the Padres are without one of their top players right now.
MLB Prediction: Philadelphia Phillies +100
