Ross continues to pitch well
Starting pitcher Tyson Ross is excelling in his second stint with the Padres, coming in with a 5-3 record and a 3.31 ERA in 70 2/3 innings of work. He has struck out 71 batters with a WHIP of 1.22 in 12 starts. In Ross’ last outing, he allowed two earned runs on seven hits with three strikeouts and two walks over five innings in a 6-3 home win over Cincinnati. San Diego has won his last five starts. He has not allowed more than three runs in any of them.
Straily looks to bounce back
Marlins starter Dan Straily will take the hill opposing Ross tonight. Straily has mostly been solid in seven starts since returning from injury, although he has faltered some in the last two. Wildness got the best of him in his last outing, giving up only one earned run on two hits with four strikeouts and five walks forcing his departure after 4 1/3 innings of a 6-1 loss at the Diamondbacks. Prior to that he took the loss at the Padres, surrendering five runs (four earned) over 5 2/3 innings in a 9-5 defeat. Straily carries a 2-2 record and a 3.50 ERA in 36 innings of work into today’s start. He has 27 strikeouts and a 1.39 WHIP.
MLB Betting Trends
San Diego
The over is 6-1-1 in the last eight Padres games on Saturday. The under is 8-3 in the last 11 Ross starts overall.
Miami
The over is 11-4 in the last 15 Marlins games on a Saturday. Miami is 0-4 in its last four Saturday games.
Prediction:
Ross has been the better pitcher of the two as of late and San Diego has been playing some decent ball overall. I’m going to side with Ross against a weak Marlins offense. I trust that play more than Straily against a Padres offense that I rank a bit above what Miami offers. If you don’t want to make a bet on a side, the under is also an intriguing play.
