Renfroe leads Padres to win
Hunter Renfroe hit a solo home run in the bottom of the seventh inning Wednesday afternoon to lead host San Diego to a 3-2 victory over the Mets. It was the only hit for Renfroe in three at-bats. Eric Hosmer was also 1-for-3 with a solo home run in the winning effort. Franmil Reyes ended the contest 1-for-4 with an RBI. Gerardo Reyes picked up the win as he struck out three over 1 2/3 perfect innings of relief. Kirby Yates earned his 15th save, giving up one hit with three strikeouts and a walk in one inning. Eric Lauer starts tonight for the Padres as he comes in with a 2-3 record, 4.30 ERA and 1.30 WHIP with 34 strikeouts over 37 2/3 innings.
Rockies hold off Giants
Colorado nearly blew the entirety of a 7-0 lead it established through two innings Thursday at home, but held on for a 12-11 victory over San Francisco. Nolan Arenado helped pace the offense as he went 3-for-4 with a home run, two walks, two runs and three RBIs. Mark Reynolds finished 2-for-5 with a double, a home run, two runs and three RBIs. Ian Desmond went 1-for-2 with a home run, three walks, two runs and two RBIS. Bryan Shaw picked up the win in relief despite giving up three earned runs on one hit with two strikeouts and two walks over one inning. German Marquez starts tonight as he enters with a 3-2 record, 3.46 ERA and 1.08 WHIP with 52 strikeouts over 52 innings.
MLB Betting Trends
San Diego
The Padres are 1-5 in their last six games versus the NL West. San Diego is 4-1 in the last five Lauer road starts.
Colorado
The Rockies are 4-1 in the last five Marquez starts. Colorado is 4-0 in the last five meetings.
Prediction:
While the Rockies have the better starting pitcher on the mound, Lauer is capable and as long as he navigates around Trevor Story and Arenado, he should stay in decent shape. Colorado exhausted its bullpen yesterday, while San Diego had an off day. I think everything aligns for the better team to get a win tonight as underdogs.
